Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why won't my Windows 98 computer recognize this DiskGO™?
You must have Windows 98 Second Edition installed, or you need to have updated your installation of Windows 98 using the Windows Update website. You must also install the driver for your DiskGO™ before you connect it to the computer.
2) Are there any special handling instructions I need to follow when I use my DiskGO™?
Never remove the device if the light is on. This means data is being accessed on the DiskGO™ and removing it can cause data corruption, loss, or loss of functionality. Be sure to properly eject the device before removing it from the system. In the Mac OS, drag the desktop item to the trash just like a CD or floppy. In Windows XP or 2000, use the "Safe Removal" icon located in the system tray, and be sure that any windows that are open and displaying data on the device are closed before you shut it down. Windows 98SE and ME users can unplug the device only when the light is off.
3) My DiskGO™ works fine at home, but when I take it to work, my computer does not recognize it. How can I get it to recognize?
If your work computer is connected to a network, it is probably being recognized. Use of mapped network drives may be the problem. Network drive letter mapping will override Windows' built-in drive lettering for removable devices. If you are on a network, have your network administrator check to see if the DiskGO™ is being recognized by the computer. Most computers recognize the device, but your network drive mapping feature may be removing the drive letter associated with it. Your network administrator can assign a new letter to the device, which will allow you to access it from the work computer.
If you are using a USB hub to connect the DiskGO™, try moving it to the last port (they are usually numbered). If that does not work, plug it directly into your computer using the extension cable.
4) I get a low power warning when I plug my DiskGO™ flash drive into a USB port on my keyboard or hub. What's wrong?
Most keyboards and USB hubs operate from power supplied by the USB ports to which they are connected; this does not leave enough power for the DiskGO™ to operate properly. Connecting the DiskGO™ to a USB port on the computer should allow it to power up properly. Occasionally, the front USB ports on some new computers are not powered. If so, connecting instead to the ports on the back of the computer will usually solve the issue.
5) My DiskGO™ is corrupting data that I store on it. Is there something wrong with it?
Attempt to format it using a PC or built-in format function(see #12 below). You can also run hard disk maintenance (such as Scandisk on PC's) on your digital media card to solve corruption problems. Our DiskGO™ uses Flash technology; such components are very sensitive to power. A power loss or surge while the card is being accessed can corrupt the card's flash chips. Formatting usually corrects these errors and allows normal use of the card. Be sure to follow the correct "safe removal procedures" appropriate to your machine.
6) Why does my DiskGO™ not show the full amount of space it is supposed to have?
Due to the nature of the way computers allocate space on disks, there is some storage space lost to file allocation. This is the case with any hard drive or USB flash drive. The usable size of the DiskGO™ should be within about 10-12% of the device's stated size. If it is off by more than that, contact us for further assistance.
7) My DiskGO™ is no longer detected by my computer. What can I do?
If you have installed any new software or hardware to the computer, uninstall the software or hardware drivers to see if that solves the problem. If it does not, please contact us for further assistance.
8) Why don't you have drivers for NT 4.0?
Unfortunately, Microsoft does not support USB mass storage devices in NT 4.0. There are some third party mass storage device drivers available on the Internet, but we do not support them or the use of any DiskGO™ device in a NT 4.0 environment.
9) Can I use my DiskGO™ on both PC and Mac?
Yes. The DiskGO™ is formatted using a PC format that can be read by either PCs or Macs. The FAT16 format is the only format that will allow proper playback of the MP3 files so it must remain in this format. You can reset the DiskGO™ back to it's factory format by performing the following steps:
While in battery mode, simply hold down the + and - keys simultaneously for a few seconds. You'll notice the LED lights will change. You can release the buttons now. When the LED lights return to normal, the format is complete.
