Frequently Asked Questions

external hard drive

1) Why doesn't my DiskGOTM HD mount using the eSATA connection?
Some Serial ATA controllers can support the 'Plug and Play' feature for SATA devices, while others do not. If your system does not support 'Plug and Play' for SATA devices then a reboot will be necessary after the device is connected.

In order for your PC to recognize the drive using the SATA connection with out re-booting your machine you must follow these steps:

  1. Right click [My Computer], select [Properties], select [Hardware], and open [Device Manager]
  2. Right click on [Disk Drives] in the devices list. Select [Scan for hardware changes]
  3. The hard drive will now be recognized if SATA Plug and Play is available and the drive will show up in [My Computer]

2) Why won't my DiskGOTM HD power on?
The DiskGOTM HD requires power from the provided AC adapter. Please check that the device is plugged into the wall and the HD correctly. Next, make sure the power switch is in the "On" position (I=On, O=Off). The LED light will be on if power is provided correctly. If you continue to have problems, please contact us for further assistance.

3) Can I use my DiskGOTM HD on both PC and Mac?
Yes. You will have to make sure the DiskGOTM is formatted using a PC format (we feel FAT32 is best). We have found that formatting the device using a PC is best when using it between platforms. Formatting it for MS-DOS on a Macintosh has been known to cause problems for some customers.

4) Why can I not transfer any files larger than 4GB onto my drive?
Your DiskGO tm HD is formatted as FAT32 when it leaves our facilities. FAT32 does not allow files greater than 4GB in size. If you would like to transfer files of that size onto your DiskGO HD, you will need to format your drive using the NTFS file system.
