Frequently Asked Questions
1) Why won't my Windows 98 computer recognize my reader?
Be sure to install the driver for your reader before you connect it to the computer. Also, be sure you have installed Windows 98 Second Edition, or updated your installation of Windows 98 using the Windows Update website.
2) Are there any special handling instructions I need to follow when I use my card in the reader?
Never remove a card without stopping the device (using the appropriate "safe removal procedure" for your operating system). Do not connect the reader to the computer with a card inserted; this can cause power-related data corruption on the card.
3) Why does my reader work at home, but when I take it to the office, my computer doesn't recognize all the slots (or the reader itself)?
If your work computer is connected to a network, it is probably being recognized. Use of mapped network drives may be the problem. Network drive letter mapping will override Windows' built-in drive lettering for removable devices. If you are on a network, have your network administrator check to see if the device is being recognized by the computer. Most computers recognize the device, but your network drive mapping feature may be removing the drive letter associated with it. Your network administrator can assign a new letter to the device, which will allow you to access it from the work computer.
4) Why doesn't my computer show all the slots as removable drives?
On PC's, be sure the drivers for the reader are installed. If you are using your computer on a network, mapped network drives may be overriding the additional slots. Your system administrator can re-map those drives so long as they are being recognized. If you have any other USB mass storage devices connected to the computer, disconnect them. (Macintosh systems will only display a drive icon when more than one card is installed.)
5) How can I tell if my reader is USB 1.1 or 2.0?
USB 2.0 devices will be marked USB 2.0 on the top. If yours is not marked USB 2.0, it is not a USB 2.0 compliant reader.
6) My reader is USB 2.0 compatible, but my computer only has USB 1.1 slots. Which driver do I install?
Install the USB 2.0 driver (the driver for the USB 2.0 version of our 6in1 reader). It may be used for USB 1.1 as well.
7) I am using the Mac OS. The reader works in OS X, but I am having a problem getting it to work in OS 9.x. Do I need to install drivers?
Yes. The built-in mass storage drivers for OS 9.x do not work properly with the 9in1 reader.
8) Can I install more than one card at a time?
Yes . The reader allows you to access multiple cards at one time.
9) If you are installing the driver for your 9-in-1 Reader:
You can download the latest version from our website. Choose your reader and you will be directed to the latest version.
10) If your reader does not recognize cards or is not recognized by the computer:
MacOS 9.x, Windows 98SE, and Windows ME users need to install the driver before connecting the device.
If you are not on a network, check to see if you have other USB storage devices connected. Some devices use drivers that the reader needs in order to work on your computer. Disconnect any other USB storage devices and try again.
If you are using a USB hub to connect the reader, try moving it to the last port (they are usually numbered). You can also try plugging it directly into your computer using the extension cable.
